A feminism coated in a permanent “it takes two to tango” rhetoric/ apologia is not feminism. It’s called “victim blaming” and I thought we stood against that as a matter of principle.

So, two things happened last night.

And, Healthy is the New Skinny, the organization behind the speaking tour that I mentioned in a previous post, has issued a Press Release:
LOS ANGELES, January 14, 2012: Due to past events that have been brought to light in Hugo Schwyzer’s personal life, we have decided to end all ties and he will no longer be working with our organization. While his performance with Healthy is the New Skinny (HNS) has been professional and valuable in helping to raise awareness about the struggles of dealing with body image issues in society, he will no longer be affiliated with HNS.
“While we have appreciated working with Hugo, we were not made aware of the extent of the events that have transpired and do not feel that it would be prudent for him to continue working with HNS.” – Katie Halchishick, Co-founder of Healthy is the New Skinny
He, on the other hand, wrote a blog post explaining that he has resigned. Semantics or truth bending? Who knows…. we got ourselves an expert manipulator here so we’ll never know.

WHEN THEY ARE MADE AGAINST ME
Feminism has collectively agreed by now that rape jokes are never funny. We do not dispute this (and rightfully so). However, racist jokes? Totally OK! in an “ironic” way, of course! But then again, how many instances of Professor Feminism’s racism have I documented already? I construct myself, digitally, as a total asshole. Sometimes I construct myself, bodily and spatially, as an asshole, but not always—I would say that more often than not , in public space, I’m a knotted unspeaker. Sometimes I’m also sweet and helpful, and sincere about it.
This is a great post about consent and what it means in the context of these particular discussions surrounding who speaks on behalf of feminism.
Ohhhhhhhh.
Just gonna go ahead and leave this here.

Oh. Professor Feminism has now declared that “I am not a feminist”?
Then I have no choice but to abide to my already announced affiliation: flamethrowerism! BECAUSE WE NEED TO BURN THIS FAUXMINISM TO THE GROUND!
From now on, anyone who mentions Professor Feminism in any positive (or even neutral) light will be directed to the link above. “Herding sluts” is the phrase that he used to refer to his participation as an organizer of Slut Walk. “Herding sluts”.
Now, go to this link and pick ANY Beavis and Butthead GIF contained therein. That’s pretty much how I feel about this whole affair. Probably this one is a good place to start.
Also, don’t forget, he writes for Jezebel. If anyone still operated under the impression that Jezebel was a pro-woman site, they need to be disavowed of such notion pronto. I cannot imagine anything less woman friendly than a White, cis, heterosexual male in a position of authority having such contempt for women as to refer to his participation in a movement as “herding sluts”.
