One of the favourites to win [British show] The Voice has become the victim of racist internet trolls.
The BBC called in police to investigate after Ruth Brown, 20, received a deluge of vile remarks on Twitter targeting her skin colour, appearance and weight.
The singer said she sobbed when she read the comments. Some users even made derogatory remarks about her father, Lloyd, who died of stomach cancer days before she auditioned for the show.

She has now spoken out about the growing problem of online bullying and racism. ‘Not only have I endured jibes of a racist nature but sick comments about my weight,’ she said in an interview yesterday.

She also defiantly reposted some of the hateful remarks on her own account to bring attention to the trolls, but the BBC has since asked her to take them down. They have been recorded as evidence.[…]
The BBC has also provided the aspiring star with a counsellor. Miss Brown, whose voice has been compared to Aretha Franklin’s, is mentored by Sir Tom Jones.

Thousands of documents detailing some of the most shameful acts and crimes committed during the final years of the British empire were systematically destroyed to prevent them falling into the hands of post-independence governments, an official review has concluded.
Those papers that survived the purge were flown discreetly to Britain where they were hidden for 50 years in a secret Foreign Office archive, beyond the reach of historians and members of the public, and in breach of legal obligations for them to be transferred into the public domain.
The archive came to light last year when a group of Kenyans detained and allegedly tortured during the Mau Mau rebellion won the right to sue the British government. The Foreign Office promised to release the 8,800 files from 37 former colonies held at the highly-secure government communications centre at Hanslope Park in Buckinghamshire.

In London alone, officers faced 1,339 allegations of racist behaviour over the past three years, with just 14 of the cases being upheld.[…]
In many cases complaints are made by fellow employees after suffering derogatory remarks or overhearing unacceptable phrases.
Officers have been reported for calling colleagues ‘the token Asian’, using the phrase ‘the n***** in the woodpile’ and saying they are off to the ‘Paki shop’.
One Staffordshire PC was sacked after calling another officer’s partner a ‘Paki’ and then making comments about food in a fake foreign accent. In Bedfordshire, one officer was investigated after allegedly saying: ‘If you were being raped by a black man, I wouldn’t help you.’
See? There is not such a thing as institutionalized racism in Europe! If I had a Euro cent for every time I heard this, I would be sending each and everyone of my Tumblr followers a personalized gift.
“What we know about defendants in racist and religiously motivated crimes is that the majority are men (83.4%). Most defendants were White British (73.4%) and the majority were aged between 25-59 accounting for 51.3% and a further 28.8% were aged between 18-24. Of interest is the fact that the proportion of both 10-13 year olds and 14-17 year olds involved as defendants has declined from 2.6% and 20.2% respectively in 2007/08 to 1.7% and 14.9%. What we know about victims is that 58.3% were men and 26.2% were women. The number of victims with no identified gender at 15.5% represents a significant improvement since 2007/08 when it stood at 56.0%.”

The number of women victims of racist attacks in the UK is at 26.2%. The people whose gender was not included in the report (that does not mean they purposefully prefer not to be identified by gender, it’s that the people collecting the data did not include the gender) is at 15.5%. Let’s say half of those were women? (cis or non cis, either trans* or gender queer or gender variant).
And then I sometimes have to hear that racism should not be of utmost concern within feminism?
Right.

I now have to wonder if they put something in the water at LSE or if people with certain inclinations naturally gravitate towards the institution, as news of students engaging in Antisemitic drinking game emerge. From the article:
LSE students are facing disciplinary action after participating in a Nazi-themed drinking game during the Athletics Union’s ski trip, held at a French mountain-side resort in December 2011. Later in the night, two students were engaged in an altercation, one of whom sustained a broken nose from the incident.
‘Nazi Ring of Fire’ involved arranging cards on the table in the shape of a Swastika, and required players to “Salute the Fuhrer.”A video featuring students making antisemitic comments was uploaded to Facebook, but has since been removed.
“A machete-wielding dog owner screamed racist abuse at a Nigerian man who complained about being bitten by his Rottweiler - then later told police the animal had nipped the male nurse because it ‘didn’t like black people’.”
The British court sentenced the dog owner to 18 months in jail, not because of his racist, hate crime but because he used a deadly weapon (the machete).
Meanwhile, this one Machete would like to have a word with the dog owner.
You remember that awful woman with a child on her lap yelling racist abuse on a London tram two weeks ago? Today, from the same school of empathy and love, another one was captured on video.
I am not posting this video because it is graphic and violent (this one does get physically violent towards the Afro British young man she directs her tirade against). If you can stomach it (it’s at the link above), I’d say take a good look at her face. Those are the eyes of hate and resentment.

Is this their cunning plan to reduce unemployment? By getting rid of working mothers who “take jobs”? Reminds me of that New York Times commenter a few days ago who blamed working women for the riots in London, for taking jobs that rightfully belonged to men.
David Cameron’s senior adviser Steve Hilton suggests UK should abolish maternity leave

Mr Hilton, the Prime Minister’s strategy director, reportedly suggested the radical ideas during discussions on scrapping red tape and bureaucracy to boost economic growth.
Mr Hilton also suggested to Mr Cameron that he simply ignore European labour regulations on temporary workers, to the alarm of the most senior civil servant in Downing Street.
“Steve asked why the PM had to obey the law,” said one Whitehall insider. “Jeremy [Heywood, Mr Cameron’s permanent secretary] had to explain that if David Cameron breaks the law he could be put in prison”.[…]
According to a report in the Financial Times, Mr Hilton also recommended sacking hundreds of Government press offices and replacing them with a blog for each Whitehall department.
The newspaper quoted a source close to Mr Hilton suggesting that he thought that maternity leave rights were “the biggest obstacle to woman finding work”.
We already have retro fashion, retro design, retro music trends, etc. I don’t see why retro politics wouldn’t eventually make a come back. Next up: do women really need to vote? And other pressing matters.
Dr Tom Logan, a psychiatrist who specialises in working out what the fuck the Daily Mail is on about, said: “The first candidate is ‘Feminism widened poverty gap’ which seems to be an obvious and grotesque falsehood, but of course the Mail thinks it’s true.

As a resident Brit, I have seen UK politics, the UK judicial system, and UK society deterioration under the false form of liberalism.
Britain is now a society that is broken,shattered, fragmented with an ever increasing incompetent coalition,the politically correct apologists.
We have no laws to combat crime,there is no justice for victims.
So, therefore, I am not surprised that the government sides with prisoners over decent UK citizens, and wants to allocate voting rights to criminals.
I will never support paedophiles, rapists and murders being handed the same rights as me,in a democratic Britain.Never.
Democracies should champion equality for those who observe laws,not those violate them.
90% of Brits are against this insane policy.Coalition are you listening?
Commit a crime, do the time, and do not expect perks and privileges with it.
