Also what does it mean

to claim you are “established” within an anonymous context? I can also open an anonymous blog and claim I am “an established physicist” and start spouting nonsense about atom structures. That doesn’t make my claim true… or valid for that matter.

It is also oddly anti feminist to claim to speak on behalf of “women” or “feminists” as a collective when we do not know who is fancying themselves this position of leadership. What makes it anti feminist is that, through this anonymity, it removes the accountability which is at the very root of feminist theory (i.e. we hold people accountable for their actions, for instance, when we talk against oppression or rape or any other basic topic within feminism). There is no accountability here. There are just vague pronouncements and grandiose statements. It reeks of “universality” and other such toxic rhetoric.

Who is this “we”? Unlike Anonymous, whose plight are clearly against well defined structures (corporate, State, etc.), this anonymity is not because of fear of repercussions. This anonymity is actually to instill fear.

  1. thehighshelf said: Yup! It was all, “I have power and am watching you though you can’t see me.” I assumed it was him, actually, precisely because it matched his current style of abuse. But he’s hardly a special snowflake on that count.

Right, except: The real main goal of white feminism...cohesive category
  3. thetart said: “This anonymity is actually to instill fear” YES. It also says “we are too Important to risk disclosing our identities,” with the heavy implication that (a) the opposition is meting out unfair repercussions, and (b) said opposition is less Important.
  4. athenasaurus said: Why would any group of feminists who says they’re “established” and who wants to combat “bullying” not give their names? If you think your stance is legit go for it. SUSPICIOUS.
